Samsung Galaxy S8 vs. S8 Plus

There was much anticipation for the arrival of the S8 Galaxy from Samsung and it is finally here.  Added to this update of the Galaxy range, there is also the release of the S8 Plus. 

Loyal Samsung customers and others have been left asking and wondering what the difference is.  You cannot help but wonder if the Plus is merely about a size increase or does it boast a host of extra features over the S8.

What are the differences?

The previous model of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus was the Galaxy Edge.  Simply put the Edge has been replaced by the Plus because Samsung has designed the new range with curved edges.  Calling a device Edge with no edges will simply not work.

Aesthetically there is little difference between the two models as both the S8 and S8 Plus sports curved-edge screens. Samsung has called the new finish to the screen the Infinity Display as the curved edge gives you a bigger screen.

The bigger screen is also due to Samsung dropping the big home button and opted for smaller function keys and edge-to-edge screens.  Even the fingerprintsense has now moved to the back of the phone.

The actualdifference between the two models lies in the actual size.  The standard S8 is 140.1 x 72.2 and is 7.33mm in thickness.  The S8 Plus model comes in at 152.4 x 78.5 and is 7.9mm in thickness. 

The display size of the two models isalso different, with the Galaxy S8 at 5.8inches and the S8 Plus at 6.2inches.  Both models have the same resolution with both coming standard with SuperAMOLED.

Which model packs the biggest punch?

There is no real difference between the hardware available in these two models.  That is not necessarily bad as the important thing to remember is that the Galaxy modelsare the fastest on the market right now.  Both the S8 and S8 Plus offers a great user experience and excellent performance.

Both models in the Samsung Galaxy range offers 4GM of RAM and has up to 64GB of internal storage.  If that does not satisfy your storage needs and you still need a bit more, it does allow for a Micro SC card as well.  Altogether, you should have a smooth, glitch-free user experience.

The one big difference between the two modelsis the battery size.  The S8 offers a 3000mAh batteryand the S8 Plus has a 3500mAh battery.  As the Plus model does come with a bigger display, the extra batterysize is welcomed.

New features

Samsung has introduced Bixby which is Samsung’s AI assistant and is available on both the S8 and S8 Plus. There will be a rolloutof availability across continents as the US and Korean market will have Bixby on release.  However, Europe and the rest of the globe will have to wait till later this year.

Overall the S8 and S8 Plus are great upgrades and offers excellent value for money.  Both models provide a great user experience.  The new Samsung Galaxy range is an excellent upgrade on the predecessors.
