Android Pie

Over 75% of people who use Google Pixel are on Android Pie, the sixteenth update of the Android operating system. It was officially released on August 6, 2018.

The Android Pie isn’t a token update. According to users, it’s brought a lot of useful features that make navigating their phone “easy as pie.” Here’s everything you need to know.

NAVIGATION

The AndroidPiehas done away with the Back, Home and Overview  keys and replaced it with one simple Home Button. If you have to retrace your steps, the Back button pops up – but only when the need arises.

Want to access your Assistant? Just press down on the Home button a little longer. Swipe it up to see your Overview, or press down as you swipe up to access your apps.

Now what about that app you use all the time? Just swipe it to the right to see the last app you used or use most frequently.

 OVERVIEW

The Android Overview now looks sleeker. Instead of the cards, you get large images that actually capture a live view of your recent apps. So if you were reading an article on the web and want to get back to it, swipe to that image and actually see the article as you last left it. Tap to continue reading, or close it by swiping up. (We told you this was as easy as Pie.)

 NEW LOOK

The Android Pie has introduced a new interface for its quick settings, and moved around some of its most common icons. Can’t find the clock? It’s on the left side of the notification bar. The volume slider’s been redesigned too, and is more intuitively located next to your phone’s actual volume buttons.

Even the multi-task app switcher has been redesigned, and for more convenience, has incorporated the Google search bar and app drawer.

BATTERY

One of the most useful improvements brought by the AndroidPieis how it prioritizes the apps you most use. This extends the life of each charge so you get more hours until your battery runs low.

You’ll also see that the battery percentage is on the Always-On Display, and the battery saver doesn’t have that standard orange overlay.

 SCREEN BRIGHTNESS

The AndroidPiehas a much more dynamic brightness feature which will adapt your screen according to your preferences. The Dark Mode has also noticeably improved.

 MORE USER CONVENIENCE

The Android Pie makes your smartphone even smarter. It won’t interrupt you during meetings or dinner: just put your phone down face down and it will launch a “Shush” or “Do not Disturb” mode so you only receive notifications from important contacts (or those you have starred in your phone book).

You can also enable some experimental features such as putting you on Bluetooth automatically whenever you drive. These can be found in a menu called Feature Flags.

Experimental features (which are currently hidden within a menu called Feature Flags) such as a redesigned About Phone page in settings, and automatic Bluetooth enabling while driving.

These are just some of the improvements provided by the new Android Pie operating system, No wonder so many people are using it!
